We all know that red roses are a way to say “I love you”. Of course there is nothing wrong with sending the traditional bouquet of red roses, but what other flowers are symbolic of love? As far back as we have records, flowers have been associated with emotions or feelings. Flowers have been used to express feelings in almost every ancient culture. Flowers have also been used as symbols in royal seals, clan symbols and family crests. While red roses are a wonderful and traditional choice if you want to express love, there are many other flowers that can be used as well.
If you want to express love without being too obvious, try sending acacia flowers. Acacias are thought to be the symbol for concealed love. Red camellias tell the recipient that they are a flame in your heart while pink camellias show that you are longing for them. Primrose says that you simply cannot live without them while red tulips are a way to declare your love. Gardenias tell that special someone that you love them in secret!
If family love is what you are trying to express, try sending a bouquet of day lilies to your mother as they are the symbol of the mother or carnations that have come to be known as the symbol for mother’s day. If you are a mom and want to send a token of love to a child, coltsfoot symbolizes maternal love and care.
Telling a friend that you love them can also be expressed with flower bouquets. Abor vitaes tells your friend that you two have a true friendship while geraniums periwinkle and ivy indicate friendship. Zinnias tell your friend that you are thinking about them in their absence and chrysanthemums tell them that they are a wonderful friend.
